Laguna Honda is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center located on a 62-acre campus in the heart of the city.
One of the largest skilled nursing facilities in the entire United States, it represents one of the most extensive commitments by any city or county to therapeutic care for seniors and adults with disabilities.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer/Nursing Home Administrator (NHA), the incumbent leads the Administrator in Training Program (AIT) and functions as facility Administrator, as well as Preceptor and Supervisor, to two (2) Laguna Honda managers who are required to obtain a Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license issued by the California Department of Public Health.
The LAGUNA HONDA SUSTAINABILITY and STABILIZATION DIRECTOR (0941 Manager VI) performs the following essential functions:
Performs Administrator duties for the facility where the preceptorship training will be provided;
Supervises the work of two (2) managers under preceptorship training for the Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license;
Provides to the managers-in-training a directly supervised training program onsite that will include a minimum of 20 hours per week and a maximum of 60 hours per week as well as be available at least by telephone at all other times;
Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the overall operations of the Administrator-in-Training (AIT) Program at Laguna Honda;
Knows and understands general skilled nursing facility practices and procedures, OBRA regulations, Code of Federal Regulations, State Regulations (Title 22), Appendix PP State Operations Manual, Life Safety Code regulations, applicable labor relations laws, and all other regulatory entities that apply;
Understands, continues to learn, and teaches others about new CMS program initiatives, such as value-based purchasing programs SNF-VBP, SNF-QRP, Quality Measures, Nursing Home Compare, Payroll Based Journal reporting, among others;
Ensures AIT candidates can provide delivery of compassionate quality care and services through an interdisciplinary team approach;
Ensures AIT candidates and other staff can appropriately respond to resident incidents and concerns that rise to a reportable event.
The LAGUNA HONDA SUSTAINABILITY and STABILIZATION DIRECTOR (0941 Manager VI) may perform other duties as assigned and required.
How to qualify REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (all candidates must verify that they meet both license and experience below):
LICENSE:
Possession of a current, valid, unrestricted license as a Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) issued by the California Department of Public Health;
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years of full-time professional experience managing in a long-term care environment, all of which must include supervising professionals;
AND
Two (2) years of full-time professional experience as the designated Administrator of a California licensed nursing home.
OR,
Four (4) years of full-time professional experience as the designated Assistant Administrator of a California licensed nursing home.
Note:
One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours of qualifying work experience.
Any overtime hours that were worked above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine qualifying hours worked.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The stated desired qualifications listed below may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process after candidates are referred for selection:
Has no pending disciplinary actions from the California Department of Public Health on candidate's Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license;
Active member of the California Association of Health Facilities (CAHF);
Completion of ACHE or CAHF Leadership Training or equivalent training;
Five (5) years of experience as the NHA in a nursing home;
Successful executive-level management and leadership in a licensed long-term care facility managed by federal, state, or local government.
