Financial Planning and Analysis Officer

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board is located in Northeastern Ontario and serves approximately 6,800 students in 17 schools located in Greater Sudbury, as well as in Killarney.

Our School Board is host to and celebrates diverse cultures and is comprised of dedicated staff committed to high quality education that inspires and promotes lifelong learning. The Board is currently seeking a Financial Planning and Analysis Officer to join our dynamic Financial Services team.

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, the Financial Planning and Analysis Officer conducts research, engages in forecasting and analysis activities, explores efficiencies to support the management, control and reporting of financial matters for the Board.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Education / Certification

1. University degree in a related discipline.
2. Professional accounting designation or equivalent.

Experience Required

1. Three years of work-related experience in finance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience in a school board setting and knowledge of the Education Act and Regulations.

KEY ACTIVITIES

1. Involved in budget forecasting for preliminary and revised estimates, financial planning, analysis and implications on proposed operational direction.
2. Researches, analyzes and participates in the coordination and consolidation of short- and long-term planning documents with financial impacts for decision-making.
3. Functional oversight for payroll procedures and processes as they intercept with the Human Resources department.
4. Forecast salary and non-salary expenditures analyses, revenue patterns and identifies potential shortages/surpluses.
5. Provides interpretation and advice on legislation, regulations, ministerial directives and organizational policies and procedures.
6. Assesses and recommends corporate accounting, reporting, internal control, and audit practices for the organization.
7. Develops and conducts financial centered training and awareness presentations.
8. Maintains knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and keeps abreast of the impact of economic, social and technological changes.

Scope of Knowledge

1. Strong knowledge of analytical and problem solving methods as well as cost/benefit and risk analysis techniques.
2. Strong knowledge and experience in Excel and data manipulation and analysis.
3. Strong knowledge of the theories and principles of financial and management accounting.
4. Knowledge of the financial control and accounting systems of the board.
5. Knowledge of payroll systems and best practices.

1. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
2. Ability to respond to inquiries from other departments, various ministries, and the public.
3. Ability to conduct training and information sessions for management and staff.
4. Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple conflicting deadlines.
5. A strong commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.

Other

Occasional travel to schools within the Board's jurisdiction requiring a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.

The annual salary range for this position is $77,019.00 to $96,287.00 with a comprehensive benefit package.
