Duties

You will be responsible for assisting with administering the day-to-day operation, execution of fitness activities and maintenance of equipment, assist with conducting intramural and inter-service sports programs to promote the physical, creative and social development of its participants.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

* Assisting in the implementation of motivational and promotional activities to encourage participation by beneficiaries to improve their cardiovascular, muscular strength, endurance and flexibility.

* Counseling beneficiaries on their individual exercise plans and advising on the safe and proper use of exercise equipment.

* Providing information and/or recommendations on wellness programs based on personal knowledge and judgment.

* Coordinating inter-unit-service intramural sports programs hosted by Base Seattle.

* Assisting with the supervision of the Base Seattle gymnasium facility, including facility maintenance, scheduling and equipment ordering and maintenance facility is clean.

* Working with DoD MWR managers in the region regarding MWR programs, offerings, and equipment acquisition.

You may be required to perform activities that require some physical exertion.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples of specialized experience include: Group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities; teacher's aide in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities; aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service; aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities; summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, and boating and fishing areas (e. g. , demonstrating camping techniques and park safety, conducting nature tours, and overseeing farm animal areas provided for children); aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control and accountability for such property in a recreation facility; or aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities.

Note: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-05 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-07.
