Registered Nurse House Supervisor

Job Summary:

As a Registered Nurse House Supervisor, you will provide essential leadership and clinical expertise to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the nursing division. You will oversee staffing, resource management, and patient flow within the acute care setting, addressing barriers to transitions in care while promoting quality and safe patient care. Your role involves supervising nursing staff, coaching and mentoring nurses, and acting as a clinical resource, ensuring adherence to policies, regulatory standards, and organizational objectives. You will support the coordination of patient care, safety initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts to deliver exceptional service to patients and families.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Registered Nurse House Supervisor, you will:

• Manage Patient Care Flow:
  Ensure smooth transitions and remove barriers related to patient flow across the acute care continuum. Address patient care needs to enhance efficiency in service delivery.
• Oversee Staffing and Scheduling:
  Proactively manage nursing unit staffing, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts. Develop and maintain a comprehensive staffing plan, identifying and addressing gaps in coverage across all shifts.
• Promote Quality and Safe Patient Care:
  Ensure that all supplies, equipment, and medications are available to support high-quality, safe patient care. Lead efforts to escalate and investigate events related to patient, family, or associate safety using Just Culture principles.
• Lead and Develop Nursing Staff:
  Provide guidance and mentorship to nursing staff, particularly those new to practice, ensuring their successful transition and growth within the role. Promote professional development and competency across the nursing division.
• Ensure Service Excellence:
  Model exceptional service behaviors and work to resolve patient and family concerns. Escalate unresolved service issues appropriately while maintaining a commitment to service excellence.
• Collaborate Across Departments:
  Encourage effective communication and collaboration among nursing and other hospital departments to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care for all patients.
• Promote Workplace Safety:
  Work closely with leadership and security to maintain a safe working environment for staff and patients. Contribute to the creation and sustainment of a culture of safety.
• Leadership and Crisis Management:
  Lead with cultural competence and transparency. Understand and apply emergency management principles, including the hospital Emergency Operations Plan, in crisis situations.
• Ensure Compliance:
  Adhere to legal, regulatory, and professional nursing standards, including the Nurse Practice Act, Scope of Standards, and Code of Ethics. Interpret and provide guidance on nursing practice standards for the healthcare team.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or the completion of BSN within 4 years of hire
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or Compact license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 6 months of hire
• FEMA Training ICS 100 and ICS 200, Emergency Notification System training, and EMRe training within 12 months of hire
• Minimum of 3 years of RN clinical experience, including management of critical and complex patients

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

• Additional ICS courses (402, 300, 700/800)

• TNCC, PALS, ENPC

• Leadership experience

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to see, read, and assess patient needs, operate medical equipment, and maintain accurate documentation.
• Frequent communication with patients, caregivers, and healthcare team members.
• Manual dexterity to operate complex medical equipment and electronic documentation systems.
• Physical endurance to assist with patient transfers, move equipment, and stand/walk during busy shifts.
