Position Purpose
Repair all commercial kitchen appliances within Child Nutrition Department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSChild Nutrition Services - Installation, Maintenance & Repair

• Services and repairs walk-in and reach-in freezers, refrigerators, ice machines, and other refrigerated equipment.
• Replaces compressors, condensers, evaporators, fan motors, and any other electrical components typically found in commercial kitchen equipment.
• Assists in the installation of water fountains, ice machines, replace compressors.
• Replaces equipment when necessary.
• Repairs and replaces fan motors, compressors, pumps, timers, belts, tubs, and transmissions.
• Locates and stops gas leaks, replaces burners and pilot assemblies.
• Required to work periodic unscheduled overtime on short notice to protect District property due to power outages, equipment malfunctions, or other as directed.

• Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

• Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance to the Board rules, policies and regulations. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

• Knowledge of practices, processes, materials and tools of the appliance installation/repair trade.
• Knowledge of district policies and procedures regarding work orders.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders, service manuals, wiring diagram schematics, and other written material relating to installation and repairs.
• Ability to write reports, letters, notes, instructions, work descriptions, and calculate amount of materials needed, etc.
• Ability to read and communicate in writing, or verbally communicate with co-workers, building staff, and diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to identify and solve problems.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, crawl, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, balance, push, pull, and lift up to 100 pounds of distributed weight.
• Ability to work courteously and effectively with others.

• Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

• Tools/Equipment Used: Standard hand and power tools; specialty equipment; plumbing tools and equipment including pipe bender, propane torch; hand tools; power tools; standard office equipment, including computer, tablet, and peripherals; light truck or van.
• Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
• Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.
• Lifting: Occasional heavy lifting and carrying (less than 50 pounds) on a daily basis.
• Environment: Works outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; may work on rooftops; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; works around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular and prolonged hours; frequent reaching and feeling while in confined spaces and around objects, which reduce or prevent visibility of what is being touched; occasionally works at heights up to 30' above ground; frequent districtwide travel.
• Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
• Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours and/or change in shift schedule with little or no advance notice.

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Certification/License:
  • EPA certification required,
  • TDLR registered AC refrigeration Tech required.
• Experience: Five years of experience repairing/replacing/installing appliances.

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• NO positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion.
• Driving and accident record:

• NO more than 2 violations during previous 36 months including:
  • moving traffic violations (including no more than 1 preventable accident);
  • failure to provide proof of valid driver's license or proof of insurance;
  • equipment violations.
• NO Driving Under the Influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol.
• NO leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage).
• NO vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide.
• NO operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked driver's license.
• NO reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing.
• NO use of a vehicle in commission of a felony.
• NO operating a vehicle without owner's permission (unauthorized use or grand theft).
• NO permitting an unlicensed person to drive.
• NO speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit.
• NO history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle.
• Additional restrictions may apply if directed by FWISD's Fleet Insurance Carrier.
