Position Description
Westminster University Peer mentors work with students as part of the Peer Mentorship for Executive Functioning Program on skills such as time management, study techniques, organization, assignment planning, and emotional regulation. Peer mentors are required to meet with their assigned mentees at least once per week during the semester. Peer mentors are required to complete a training course on Canvas and will be paid for time spent training. Peer mentors are required to attend group meetings once per month to receive ongoing training, check in about progress, and receive support.
Responsibilities

Understand the role of executive functioning in academic and social success.
Recognize and challenge biases against populations with disabilities: challenge deficit-mindset and prejudiced language.
Understand the difference between mentorship and tutoring.
Know and understand how to implement a variety of tools related to time management, organization, studying and motivation.
Recognize signs of emotional dysregulation in oneself and a mentee, and how to proceed in a mentoring session.
Develop effective and diverse communication strategies.
Meet with mentees one-on-one or in small groups to help them develop executive functioning skills.
Help mentees develop or refine their executive functioning skills and become independent learners.
Demonstrate sensitivity to, respect for, and understanding of the needs of mentees seeking mentorship support.
Complete online log within 24 hours of each mentee session.
Accurately record mentoring in time sheet.
Qualifications

Completing the Peer Mentoring for Executive Functioning training, which will introduce mentors to the concept of executive functioning, the way it operates in college age students, and how it may vary depending on the student.
Be a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior student at Westminster University in good academic standing.
Interest in peer mentorship and confidence in ability to assist other's development of executive functioning skills.
Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Availability to mentor after school hours and some evenings.
Competency in professional behavior, friendliness, patience, and sensitivity to a diversity of students.
Self-motivation and ability to work independently.
