Licensed School Nurse
Job Duties and Requirements:
Provide for compliance with requirements outlined for Parent Consent including being able to explain the elements of the Safeguards, Medical Assistance and Private insurance components to staff and parents along with working with Administrative Assistant in this area.
Provide training for all new special education staff each year in the background and process for TPR through written materials and meetings.
Work with Administrative Assistant to train therapists and nurses.
Advocate for and suggest strategies to Case Managers to assure that the IEP team considers specific language in the IEP regarding therapist and nursing services, Paraprofessional/Personal Care Assistant (Para/PCA) needs and duties and transportation needs that include details required for TPR.
Provide for timely initiation of Para/PCA tracking for students who qualify for TPR.
This includes teaching and collaborating with the Qualified Professional (QP) to develop a Care Plan and do a Care Plan Review with Paraprofessional (identified as training and supervision by the Department of Human Services).
This may include starting the care plan and review process at the beginning of the school year because of the workload for QP who are the Licensed School Nurses in the buildings.
Provide training and support to the QP in the ongoing supervision and documentation needs for Para/PCA components to comply with TPR.
Manage the care of individual students with special health needs through assessment, planning, assurance and evaluation.
Interpret health findings for educational staff regarding the impact of health concerns on learning and accommodations required at school.
Interpret to medical providers the school related needs of students.
Participate on the IEP (Individual Education Plan) team for students with health/sensory/physical concerns or impairments that may interfere with learning including providing special education related services (direct and/or indirect) in the area of health/physical when needed.
Develop and implement individual health plans (IHP) and emergency health plans (EHP) for students with handicapping health conditions that require accommodation to attend school.
Perform skilled nursing procedures and delegate nursing care procedures when appropriate, including planning, training, monitoring and supervision of delegation using clear written plans for delegates to follow.
Participate in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations and medical conditions using District technology.
Delegate appropriate functions to health paraprofessionals as needed.
Provide supervision for their direct and indirect care.
Follow state and county guidelines for reporting contagious conditions and informing families and staff.
Provide planning, intervention, evaluation and reassessment for students with chronic and acute health conditions and/or disabilities in the special or general education setting.
Specific Responsibilities:
Develop Individual Health Plans, Emergency Care Plans and 504 Plans as needed.
Collaborate with the special education team to ensure student success.
Duties may include; attending special education meetings when appropriate, providing supervision and training to special education paras as needed, obtaining and documenting health assessments.
Interpret health information and its impact on education planning for students.
Knowledge and Skills:
Evidence of experience as PHN or LSN at elementary and/or secondary level with strong nursing skills preferred.
Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc.

Evidence of skills and experience in working with medically dependent, medically fragile and medically complex students and their families.
Demonstrated knowledge in special education process and practice preferred.
