Position Summary

The Per Diem X-Ray Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality radiographic procedures in accordance with established protocols and guidelines. This role involves working on an as-needed basis to provide coverage during peak times, vacations, or absences. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to adapt to a flexible schedule. Key Responsibilities

Radiographic Procedures:
- Perform diagnostic x-ray examinations following established protocols and procedures.
- Ensure the correct positioning of patients to obtain optimal images.
- Operate and maintain x-ray equipment safely and efficiently.
- Review and evaluate developed x-rays to determine if additional images are necessary.
Patient Care:
- Prepare patients for radiologic procedures by explaining the process, positioning them correctly, and shielding areas not being imaged.
- Provide a high level of patient care and comfort during radiographic procedures.
- Monitor patients' conditions during procedures and respond to any distress.
Documentation and Records:
- Accurately document patient information and radiographic procedures in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Ensure all images are correctly labeled and stored according to department protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of procedures performed and equipment used.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and radiation protection guidelines to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
- Follow all regulatory requirements and guidelines, including those set by OSHA, FDA, and ACR.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities as required.
Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Assist in the training and orientation of new staff and radiology students as needed.
- Communicate effectively with the radiology team to ensure smooth workflow and patient throughput.

Compensation is commensurate with experience and education. Hiring compensation ranges from $23.00-$33.35 per hour. Eligible for PRN shift differential on top of base rate of pay.

Position QualificationsMinimum Education

Completion of an accredited radiology program.

Experience

Clinical radiographic and imaging experience from an AMA accredited radiologic facility.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public, patients, family, staff, and physician and acts within the chain of command, utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills.
Competent in delivering safe and effective patient care within legal limits of license and certifications and hospital policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the continuum of care provided in the patient care department.
Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, family, staff, and physicians.

Physical Demands

Continuous standing and walking long periods = to or greater than > 8 hours per shift
Speaking, reading, and writing, expanded > 8 hours per day
Exposed to vibration and cramped spaces > 1-hour day
Frequently mobilizes patients > 4 hours per day
Frequently per shift: lifts, carries, pushes, and/or pulls > 50 lbs.
Frequently per hour: bends, squats, kneels, twists, turns, and reaches
Frequently per minute: hand, finger, and wrist repetition and moderate dexterity
Frequently per hour: exposed to soft voices > 3 feet away
Frequently per hour: exposed to close eye work
Frequently per shift: may be exposed to Ionizing/nonionizing radiation exposure, including x-ray and microwave

Working Conditions

Regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases
Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment
Exposed to unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces), etc.
Handles emergencies or crisis situations
Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays)
On-call may be required

Certifications

Certification as RT(R)
Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association
