A law firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Tax Litigation Attorney to join its team in Grand Haven, MI. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in tax court litigation, significant experience in civil tax controversy, and a proven track record in both federal and state courts. This role requires a candidate with a strong capability to handle refund litigation matters, manage complex cases, and develop new business opportunities. Admission to the Michigan Bar is mandatory.
Duties:
Represent clients in tax court litigation, focusing on civil tax controversy matters.
Handle refund litigation cases from inception to resolution.
Manage and supervise client files and ensure effective client communication.
Lead and coordinate multiple cases simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
Develop and maintain client relationships, demonstrating excellent customer service.
Collaborate with IRS Chief of Counsel, U.S. Attorney's Office, and DOJ Tax Division as necessary.
Demonstrate business development skills, potentially bringing a portable business book with growth potential.
Provide strategic legal advice and guidance in complex tax disputes.
Requirements:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in tax court litigation, with a strong background in civil tax controversy.
Experience working as a trial lawyer in both federal and state courts.
Demonstrated experience in handling refund litigation matters.
Experience with the IRS Chief of Counsel, U.S. Attorney's Office, or DOJ Tax Division is preferred.
Proven ability to manage complex cases, develop business, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high-quality client service.
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
Admission to the Michigan Bar is required.
