The Prince George's County Board of License Commissionersisseeking qualified applicants to fill anUnderage Operativeposition, grade G1 within the Inspectors 1 Division.

About the Position

This is a 1000-Hour position for the Underage Compliance Program - Compliance checks are a tool used in an ongoing effort by the Board of License Commissioners (BOLC) to reduce the availability of alcohol to underage youth from bars, restaurants, liquor stores, grocery stores and convenience stores. The BOLC uses underage buyers to test compliance with laws regarding the sale of alcohol to minors. The potential sanctions can range from a fine against the seller/server, as well as fines and suspensions against the business for the failure of their employee to decline the sale.

About the Agency

The mission of the Prince George's Board of License Commissioners is to enforce the alcohol beverage laws of the State of Maryland and to promote the education of licensees and the public, while encouraging socially responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages. We accomplish this through comprehensive inspections while bestowing trust through fair administration with transparency. The Board of License Commissioners provides the highest level of service to the citizens of Prince George's County through strict licensing, education, and partnership with County agencies which provides the upmost assistance in ensuring compliance to all alcohol beverages regulations and state laws.

Examples of Work
• Works in an undercover capacity with Liquor Inspectors and local law enforcement officers assigned to the Underage Compliance Program.
• Enters liquor-licensed establishments and attempts to purchase alcoholic beverages.
• Assists with conducting observations for any illegal alcohol related activities.
• Assists with conducting investigations and enforcement activities related to possible violations.
• Testifies as a witness at hearings to provide pertinent evidence related to alleged violations.
• Assists with collecting evidence of violations, such as photographs and testimonies for assigned Liquor Inspector and/or hearings.
• Assists with preparing narrative report revealing potential compliance issues or violations.

Qualifications
• Education and experience as required by the program to which assigned.
• May be required to perform manual or routine clerical work, depending on the type of work assigned, for prolonged periods.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Upon selection, the candidate must:
• Applicant must not turn 20 years old prior to first date of employment.
• Must successfully pass a comprehensive background process.

INTERVIEW PROCESS:The interview process will include an oral interview, a fifteen (15) minute writing exercise and a five (5) minute presentation to the interview panel.

DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY:Candidates will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
