The Workers' Compensation Coordinator plays a pivotal role in supporting the risk management program by overseeing and administering workers' compensation claims and related functions. This position involves coordinating between injured employees, medical providers, third party administrators and county departments to ensure timely claim processing, compliance with regulations, and the successful reintegration of workers back to their roles. The coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records, preparing reports, and staying up to date with industry trends and regulatory changes. With a strong emphasis on customer service, this role requires an individual who can offer guidance, manage multiple tasks, and enhance the risk management programs to ensure both efficiency and compliance.

Performs a variety of duties in support of a comprehensive risk management program; provides assistance and guidance involving claim reporting processing, insurance and other risk management programs.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The incumbent in this position performs a broad mix of key clerical functions that are recurring in nature and provides support to the department. The incumbent works under limited supervision with unusual or non-routine issues referred to the manager.

Essential Functions

• Works closely with the Risk Manager to provide administrative support to a comprehensive risk management program and related policies;
• Administers and coordinates the countywide workers' compensation programs;
• Coordinates and communicates with employees, medical providers, county departments, and other stakeholders regarding injured worker status, work restrictions, and to ensure timely return to work;
• Provides consultation and coaching, delivering high levels of customer service to all claim parties including injured workers and their employing departments;

• Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations;

• Initiates, leads, and coordinates program development and enhancements, researches and stays current on trends in the insurance and risk management industries;

• Performs data entry and ensures the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date data and records within the risk management information system (RMIS);
• Creates and maintains appropriate claims files following established records retention policies and procedures;
• Performs analytics and provides regular reports with benchmark data to evaluate programs and provide recommendations;

• Coordinates light duty / return to work program; works with internal and external contacts to determine if there are light duty jobs or tasks that can be performed within the scope of doctor-ordered work restrictions; tracks assignments and accounts for work time accordingly;
• Processes annual invoicing for office/dept Risk Fund premium allocation and monitors deposits and funds;

• Develop and deliver training on risk related topics;

• Prepares and drafts correspondence, claimant notices, requests for information, settlements, releases, and other records.

• Attend quarterly claims management meetings to ensure proper claims handling;

• Assists with analyzing accidents and loss data to determine trends and problems to correct hazardous situations;
• Performs related duties as required.

• High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in business management or related field and certification as an Idaho Worker's Compensation Specialist preferred;
• A minimum of three years of previous administrative support experience in a related field;
• Knowledge of Idaho Workers' Compensation laws, rules and regulations;
• Knowledge of Idaho Industrial Commission requirements and practices;
• Knowledge of Idaho law as it applies to the administration of county government and elected officials;
• Knowledge of the concept and application of risk management;
• Knowledge of insurance terminology, adjusting principles and practices;
• Knowledge of claims adjusting procedures and practices and insurance terminology;
• Knowledge of investigative practices and techniques, insurance, and risk management principles;
• Experience with various computer software programs such MS Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook as well as database management programs; Experience with Origami Risk GRC Software preferred;
• Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation;
• Skill in organizing, coordinating, and prioritizing information and tasks;
• Ability to read and interpret medical terminology;
• Ability to consistently meet daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines;
• Ability to compile data and prepare reports;
• Ability to review documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance;
• Ability to work independently to complete tasks with minimal oversight;
• Ability to effectively communicate with people in potentially stressful and emotional situations;
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information;
• Ability to communicate effectively with proven verbal and written skills;
