Energy Settlements Analyst

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking two Analysts to join our Energy Settlements Group responsible for the timely and accurate completion of work that includes producing energy bills, processing invoices, creating journal entries and general ledger reconciliations, reporting, and audit support. We are hiring a Fuels Analyst position (Includes coal, diesel, propane, and solar) and a Natural Gas Analyst position. In these roles, you will ensure the accuracy of all energy settlement trading activity at Colorado Springs Utilities. You will be part of a team committed to enhancing the efficiency and value of our Energy Supply Portfolio while providing essential services to the Colorado Springs Community in an environment that encourages your ideas and contributions. You will also learn and become an expert in using energy trade and risk management (ETRM) software.

What will you be doing?

• Reconciling discrepancies with counterparties

• Reviewing contract details, fees, rates, and payment schedules, as well as interpreting, and applying contractual requirements as they relate to energy trading and settlements, electric and gas cost adjustment analysis, and special projects as assigned

• Completing financial month-end and year-end closing activities, in addition to annual audit requirements

• Identifying and implementing process improvements

• Ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), contract terms, regulatory requirements, and other standards and policies

• Analyzing and communicating insights from reports to the trading floor and management for key decision-making

• Assessing and testing energy trading, risk management, and settlement software systems

Who you are. You ideally have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a closely related field, along with demonstrated experience in accounting and/or settlements, or a relevant analytical or business research-oriented field is preferred. A basic understanding of accounting fundamentals and concepts is vital for success, and knowledge of electric, fuel, and natural gas operations is valued. The ability to analyze quantitative information and communicate data insights, along with strong attention to detail, is critical to success in this role.
