Job Summary: Ski Patrol is responsible for performing guest service functions such as accident handling, administering first aid, trail maintenance, mountain sweeps, lift evacuation and explosives handling. Jobduties vary depending on experience level which will be assessed upon employment.

Applicants must be 18 years of age.

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of the Palisades Tahoe Resort, LLC's hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Palisades Tahoe Resort, LLC's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Base hourly pay range: $28. 50 - $38. 00 per hour

Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks include the following; other duties may be assigned:

Provide customers with top quality customer service in a friendly and positive manner.
Adheres with service and safety standards in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Mitigate skiing hazards through appropriate and consistent markings and signage
Evaluate skiers for injuries and administer first aid as necessary
Transport injured skiers by sled, toboggan or snowmobile
Mitigate avalanche hazards through the application of standard forecasting and control procedures.
Investigate accidents and document
Enforce policies in a fair, consistent manner, including skier safety, speed control, citizen's arrest as necessary.
Actively anticipate and meet guest needs
Act as Mountain Dispatch
Positively assist and interact with other employees and departments
Maintain and improve patrol skills
Avalanche rescue beacon expertise
Assist and expedite avalanche and missing person rescues

In addition to all of the skills and knowledge of lesser levels, demonstrates competencies in these areas:

Guest Service

Can provide on hill directions to all slopes and facilities
Can provide guests with daily grooming report for all complexes
Proficient with all medical emergencies, helicopter landing zone and troop carrier procedures
Provide transport and extrication all terrain, all equipment
Toboggan Skills (Level III)
Assist in conducting searches for missing skiers including rescue, patient care, and extrication
Proficient interview technique with reporting party
Participates in incident investigation including drafting diagrams and maps, photograph annotation, and all necessary documentation with the help of an I. I. Team member

Hill Safety

Readily identify and appropriately mark hazards
Adjust hill safety for mitigation of changing hazard
Can evaluate all slopes in assigned complex for safety and quality
Can perform all mountain sweeps
Perform complex Sled/Ferno/Stokes Litter rescues utilizing appropriate lowering/belay systems
Spider harness; sled evacuation from chair; maneuver terrain problems/tyrolean
Self-belay from chair to chair
Can search all inbounds areas and adjacent backcountry areas
Retain personal equipment necessary to perform in-area or back country search
Participate in terrain familiarization outside of ski area boundary

Avalanche Rescue & Control

Cal/OSHA Blaster's License
Leads 5 to 10 or more routes
Understand the basic ICS command structure (Complete ICS 100 Course)
Ability to communicate an accurate assessment of scene

Competencies and Job Requirements:
Required:

Effective communication skills, oral & written
Strong sense of customer service & safety awareness
Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Have a neat & clean appearance in compliance with the company grooming standards
Punctual, able to report at scheduled start time; able to arrive by 5:00 am, regardless of weather or road conditions
Work well as part of a team.
Expert skier in all weather and snow conditions on all slopes, carrying heavy and/or awkward loads.
Able to maintain a calm, controlled demeanor during difficult or trying situations or confrontations
Basic radio communications knowledge
Knots and ropes general knowledge
Chair lift evacuation
Able to understand mountain meteorology, snow pack metamorphism, avalanche dynamics
Able to work longer hours and/or additional days if requested

Preferred:

Basic explosives experience

Education and Experience:
Required:

High School Diploma or GED
OEC/EMT Certified

Preferred

1 year experience as Professional Ski Patrol
Extensive winter mountaineering experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, see, hear, smell, and ski. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects tools or controls. Must be capable of walking or standing 70% or more of a normal 8 hour work shift. Must be capable of skiing 50% or more of a normal 9 hour day. Must be capable of occasionally lifting and pushing or pulling 100 lbs or more, and frequently lifting, pushing or pulling, and carrying 20-75 lbs. Must be capable of frequent climbing movements, walking on uneven terrain, walking on snow and ice, skiing, and operating a snowmobile. Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.
