I. JOB OVERVIEW
Summary:
The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking an Associate Director, Foundation Relations at The George Washington University (GW). DAR is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community of alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients, and other friends. Our goal is to advance GW's mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.
Job Summary: The Associate Director, Foundation Relations, reporting to the Executive Director of Foundation Relations, will guide GW leadership, faculty, and staff in initiating, strengthening, and managing strategic relationships with foundations to advance philanthropic support for various GW priorities and programs.
Responsibilities include:
Engaging school, department, and DAR leadership in formulating foundation fundraising strategy for assigned areas and implementing plans for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of viable prospects.
Demonstrating prospect research skills and the ability to develop foundation fundraising strategies involving leadership and faculty from diverse disciplines and that further university, school, and/or department priorities.
Maintaining a portfolio of funders with the capacity to make awards of $100,000 and above, developing partnerships with foundation program officers/staff, and ensuring proper documentation of internal and external fundraising activities.
Playing a central role in developing or assisting with the creation of letters of support, concept papers, proposals and reports for funders, on behalf of individual schools and faculty. This includes demonstrating a thorough understanding of GW systems and policies for proposal submissions, including the requirements for routing and approval of proposals through the Office of Sponsored Projects.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with school/unit fundraisers, deans, and associate deans for research, department heads, faculty and administrative staff of the university.
Securing and coordinating foundation meetings and preparing briefing packets for university leadership and other university representatives.
Managing stewardship activities for assigned portfolio of foundations.
Educating and updating university partners on foundation fundraising, including making presentations to faculty, DAR colleagues, and administrative staff.

Performing other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

The preferred candidate will have a strong track record of success in articulating a compelling case for support though multiple communication tools (including grant proposals, reports, budget documents, and verbal and visual presentations, among others); experience raising funds from foundations while working in a higher education development office; a passion for learning about and articulating support for a wide range of topics, such as public health, medicine, arts and humanities, social sciences, technology, and public policy; and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced office environment and effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Hiring Range
$72,235.20 - $99,250.68
