Position Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed independent practitioner who is responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for the emergency department patient in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and the nursing standards of care (assessment of health status, diagnosis, development of plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan, and evaluation of patient status) 1, 2. Emergency department advance practice providers clinical management is conducted in collaboration with other health care team members.

Education and Experience Requirements

EDUCATION:
Required:
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program

Preferred:

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Current RN Licensure for the State of Iowa
Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant Licensure
BLS, ACLS, PALS, & ATLS Trainings

Current nurse Practitioner certification in ENP-BC - Emergency Nurse Practitioner

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

2-3 years with Emergency Department experience

Essential Job Functions

Assess the patient's physical, psychological, social and environmental status specific to age.
Orders medications/blood products and treatments in compliance with Evidence based treatment modalities consistently and accurately.
Provides outstanding customer service to all patients, families, visitors, and team members, as evidenced by use of AIDET, hourly rounding, bedside report, prompt response to call lights and patient needs, and other Studer principles.
Maintains knowledge base regarding hospital philosophy and customer service standards.
Recognize and identify cardiac rhythms implementing appropriate patient care according to unit policy and ACLS protocol. Will also be current with all ACLS, BLS, PALS, ATLS, or within one year of hire.
Attends 50% of all unit staff meetings to maintain awareness of job-related issues.
Completes and maintains clinical records accurately and in a timely manner.
Respects and maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
Shows clinical inquiry by participating in educational opportunities and shares expanded knowledge and skills with other staff members.
Participates as a team member in providing and coordinating patient care and services.
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in time management, resources and use of supplies.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
