Iowa Workforce Development is seeking to hire an Accounting Technician 2 in our Unemployment Insurance Tax Bureau at our 1000 E Grand Ave., location in Des Moines, IA.

Your primary responsibilities in this role include:

Process ACH credit payments and paper checks received daily and deposit paper checks through remote

check scanner. Create DAT files to apply payments to accounts and prepare manual deposits that may not be readable or accepted by remote deposit check scanner. Troubleshoot errors and/or report any errors or issues to relevant staff as needed.

Compile, reconcile, and balance all payment batches submitted in MIUI daily.

Payment batches include:

H-Batch (manually applied paper checks).

A-Batch (no new money).

G-Batch (suspense items).

V-batch (paper checks).

ACH Credit Batch and ACH payments.

Returned Items (payments returned or rejected by the bank).

Process ACH applications from employers when received by email, mail or fax and send confirmation letters to employers when ACH payment method is set up for the employer's account.

Research balancing discrepancies to identify and correct payment errors and maintain a spreadsheet of all reconciling entries, void suspense payments, and produce documentation for state auditors and TPS.

Work with financial management of all state of Iowa internal exchange transfers. Process and

complete offsets, returned item documents, and transfer payments.

Document employer refund requests from the Account Maintenance and Adjustments Units to verify and document to close workflows. Reapply warrants to employer accounts or create suspense payments.

Provide backup assistance to Tax Bureau staff responsible for processing Tax Bureau mail during

absences and high levels of business activity.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency and four years of clerical accounting experience which involved the compilation, tabulation, examination, verification or recording of financial, statistical or related fiscal programs using elementary bookkeeping principles and practices;

OR

the successful completion of a post-high school vocational/technical, business college, or area community college curriculum in accounting which included concentrated course work equivalent to twenty semester hours (or more) in accounting;


an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of employment in clerical office work for each year of the required education;


substituting the successful completion of thirty semester hours or the academic equivalent in a post high school Business, Accounting or closely related curriculum for each year of the required experience;


any equivalent combination of qualifying education or experience;


one year of experience as an Accounting Technician 1 in the State of Iowa classified service will be considered as qualifying;


one year of work experience as an Accounting Clerk 3 in the State of Iowa classified service will be considered as qualifying.
