Mechanical Project Engineer

Project Engineer (Mechanical Bias) - Water TreatmentLocation:
Rochester, KentThe Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Engineer with a strong mechanical bias to join our team and play a key role in the successful delivery of a major water treatment plant project in Rochester, working in partnership with Southern Water.
This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to contribute to a critical infrastructure project.Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Engineering:
• Provide technical expertise for all mechanical aspects of the project, including design review, specification development, and construction supervision.
• Ensure that mechanical systems comply with relevant regulations, standards, and Southern Water specifications.
• Coordinate with mechanical subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely and efficient delivery of mechanical works.Project Management:
• Assist the project manager in planning, scheduling, and managing the mechanical scope of the project.
• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans for the mechanical component.
• Monitor progress and identify potential risks or issues related to mechanical works.Construction Oversight:
• Provide on-site supervision and guidance during the installation and commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Ensure that mechanical work is performed according to specifications and safety standards.
• Conduct inspections and testing of mechanical systems.Documentation and Reporting:
• Prepare and maintain accurate technical documentation, including mechanical drawings, specifications, test reports, and handover documents.
• Provide regular progress reports and updates to the project manager.Collaboration:
• Work effectively with other project team members, including engineers, construction managers, subcontractors, and Southern Water representatives.Required Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Project Engineer on water treatment or related infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, filters, piping, and other related equipment.
• Familiarity with relevant mechanical codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWWA, NFPA).
• Experience with construction documentation, drawings, and specifications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.Desirable:
• Experience working with Southern Water or other water utilities.
• Knowledge of SCADA systems and control systems used in water treatment plants.
• Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile).
