The Thompson Okanagan Region Indigenous Relations Team is an established, collaborative, diverse team of experts, including three Senior First Nations Relations Advisors, working at the strategic level to provide guidance and support on Indigenous relations across multiple business lines within the region. By supporting the implementation of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, the team plays a critical role in fostering lasting relationships with local Indigenous communities and driving policy development, while advancing reconciliation and equity.
The Role
As a First Nations Relations Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting reconciliation efforts and fostering respectful relationships between the Ministry of Forests and Indigenous communities. Your work will involve communicating with First Nations on natural resource applications, providing expert guidance on legal and procedural consultation requirements, and collaborating with ministry staff and external stakeholders. This position offers the chance to positively impact natural resource operations and the forest and range sector in British Columbia, while contributing to reconciliation and the development of inclusive policies.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in the Natural Resource field, Indigenous Relations, Social Sciences or equivalent degree as recognized by the relevant association and two (2) years of related experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Valid Class 5 BC driver's license
Related experience must include all of the following:

Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
Experience working with First Nations communities.
Experience participating in the First Nations consultation process.
Experience supporting diverse teams and multiple concurrent projects
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

Experience facilitating meetings, groups and conferences.
Experience working with internal and external groups including government, private sector and Indigenous partners in a cross-cultural setting

This position can be located in Clearwater, Kamloops, Lillooet, Merritt, Vernon
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
