COMPENSATION:

A competitive compensation package will be provided including an attractive salary and excellent benefits.
The salary range is $116,941 to a control point of $155,922.

THE OPPORTUNITY:
DEAN OF HEALTH SCIENCES

Reporting to the VP, Academic, the Dean of Health Sciences ('Dean') plays a pivotal leadership role in fostering academic excellence, student success, and community engagement.
Through a lens of strategic enrolment management, the Dean has responsibility for leading, guiding, and managing the development and operation of the School of Health Sciences, consistent with the College's strategic and academic plans, providing leadership and oversight of program delivery excellence.
The Dean will oversee multiple academic programs, ensuring alignment with the College's mission, strategic goals, and community needs.
They balance the operational needs of academic programs with visionary leadership to ensure innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in teaching and learning, as well as student success.

With an emphasis on building culture and engagement, the Dean will work closely with faculty, staff, students, partner organizations, licensors, and CNC's communities to ensure the School of Health Sciences remains vital and relevant.
The Dean will also work across CNC, in partnership with other faculty, staff, and administrators to collaboratively achieve the broader College mission and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Articulates a shared vision, mission and goals for the School, consistent with the College's Strategic and Academic Plans, and based on current best practices;
  2. Participates in advising, coordinating, and decision-making on College-wide operational and strategic matters;
  3. Keeps the School advised of institutional directions and strategies which have an impact on departmental and School planning;
  4. Develops operating procedures, policies, and communications within the School and, where appropriate, in the College; ensures decisions are communicated within the School and College and the external community;
  5. Mentors faculty, staff, and Associate Deans with respect to institutional policies and procedures, governance, and teaching;
  6. Participates in the Academic Plan development;
  7. Provides leadership in teaching excellence, curriculum and faculty development;
  8. Ensures the quality and integrity of programs and academic offerings within the School;
  9. Oversees academic program review, renewal, and the assessment of program outcomes;
  10. Promotes learning-centered approaches where a culturally inclusive environment facilitates respect, equality, and understanding;
  11. Provides leadership in new program and curriculum development, including resource allocation and advice, as required;
  12. Keeps the VP, Academic and other senior-level administrators advised of initiatives and interests of the School which require coordination and support across the institution;
  13. Co-leads and collaborates with regional campuses in regards to program delivery and improvement;
  14. Within a matrix reporting structure, works collaboratively with leaders and managers on other campuses to provide consistent direction on work functions, processes, and standards;
  15. Monitors enrolment and retention of students within the School and devises, in consultation with faculty and Student Services, strategies for managing and enhancing both;
  16. Analyzes enrollment trends and data to inform decision-making and strategic planning; ensures SEM is integrated across the division;
  17. Utilizes data to forecast future enrollment and adjust strategies to meet institutional targets;
  18. Pursues partnerships and revenue generating opportunities within the School and College, and with other domestic and international institutions or organizations;
  19. Builds and maintains strong partnerships with local businesses, industries, and community organizations to ensure relevant academic programs that meet workforce needs;
  20. Engages with government agencies, educational institutions, and other partners to advocate for the College's interests and enhance opportunities for students;
  21. Establishes and participates in program and advisory committees engaging in college-wide, community consultation initiatives;
  22. Leads the development of the annual departmental plan, including budget planning and management of financial resources, including equipment, staffing and facilities;
  23. In consultation with Associate Deans, provides oversight with the School timetable and workload allocations;
  24. Develops a staffing plan for the School that balances resources, opportunities, and limitations to advance the strategic plan of the College;
  25. Monitors staff and faculty succession plans, and is responsible for managing hiring within the School in accordance with college policies and procedures as well as collective agreements, and chairing committees as required;
  26. Orients new staff to all aspects of the School and faculty to instructional responsibilities;
  27. Responsible for faculty and staff evaluations and where necessary, in collaboration with Human Resources, designs and implements performance improvement plans;
  28. Act as a resource to faculty, staff, on academic and professional matters and effectively facilitate problem solving and conflict resolution in a sensitive and professional manner;
  29. Responsible for advising/mentoring students, addressing student appeals, and administering the Academic Conduct Policy and Procedures;
  30. Ensures compliance with academic standards, accreditation requirements, and legislation;
  31. Collaborates with Student Affairs and Student Services to create an inclusive, supportive, and accessible learning environment;
  32. Champions initiatives that promote equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging across the institution;
  33. Ensures that the College's commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous communities is integrated into academic practices, programs and policies;
  34. Attends and provides advice as requested at all relevant internal and external committee meetings;
  35. Represents the School on Education Council, other committees, and external meetings;
  36. Administers collective agreements within the School;
  37. Provides input on contract negotiations and serves on contract negotiating committee when requested.

The ideal candidate should be a humble, skilled leader who is well experienced with the complexities of post-secondary administration.
Possessing an inclusive and collaborative leadership style, they build engagement with both staff and external partners by creating a true team environment, leveraging the considerable expertise that exists within CNC.
The Dean should be decisive and possess sufficient planning expertise and team leadership skills to assist CNC with complex decisions and guide employees through challenging initiatives.
The Dean should leverage their experience with healthcare service providers, licensors, and partners to build .
