What do you offer?

The Otonabee Summer Program Staff implements and facilitates the delivery of quality recreational programs, services and experiences to children and youth aged 4 to 16 enrolled at Camp Otonabee. The Program Staff ensures that children and youth have a positive experience leading to personal growth through fun and rewarding recreation and sport programs.

Possible areas of focus:

  • Adventure Programming (high ropes climbing and challenge courses)
  • Waterfront Programming (swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding)

Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Delivering high quality program facilitation.
  • Performing some housekeeping responsibilities - sanitation of equipment, cleaning program areas, etc.
  • Assisting in set up and take down of program areas and equipment.
  • Participating in swimming, canoeing, rock climbing, kayaking, and other activities.
  • Actively supervising campers in their program space.

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Language: Ability to work in English; Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Experience, Skills and Abilities:
  • National Lifeguard Certification, Bronze Cross, Paddle Canada, or other relevant certifications will be strongly considered as assets.
  • CUI Level 1 or Level 2 or previous high ropes experience/hours are considered as assets.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with program participants, members, staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to maintain calm demeanor in stressful situations.
  • Ability to act as a positive role model for campers, staff and volunteers.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 16 years old by June 23, 2025.
  • Applicants must have a current Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' certification.
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Semi-annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.

  • Creativity and Innovation: Plans and implements quality programming in a developmentally appropriate environment.
