Role Description:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join our team as an R&D Firmware Engineer. We are looking for someone who is passionate about building firmware and software systems but can integrate effectively into both mechanical and electrical systems. You will be working closely with multidisciplinary engineers to collaborate on the development of complete systems, validating their performance with the experiments you design. You will be expected to refine, organize, and optimize development-level firmware and software and transform it into a product. While this is a firmware position a fundamental understanding of electrical hardware and mechanical systems will be required to effectively contribute and communicate with the team.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct research and development activities to improve sensing capabilities for our wearable device
• Design and prototype with novel biomedical sensor technologies
• Design and implement experiments for software and hardware validation
• Design and implement algorithms for real-time sensor data processing and analysis.
• Communicate with other engineers and contribute to mechanical and electrical integration.
• Optimize algorithms for performance and efficiency in resource-constrained embedded compute platforms.
• Evaluate and validate sensors and algorithms using real-world sensor data sets.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• Hands-on, rapid prototyping experience for multidisciplinary technical projects.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ (Arduino), Python, MATLAB, Java
• Excellent firmware development ability:
  able to work quickly to create efficient, modular, and scalable programs to further product development.
• Strong Electrical and reasonable mechanical proficiency:
  
• Applied understanding of mechanical and electrical integration practices:
  actuators, sensors, and signals
• Understanding of PCB bring-up, debugging, soldering, and circuit evaluation
• Design experience:
  Process, iteration, stakeholder consideration and evaluation
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experienced with creating concise technical documents and reports.
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
• Able to work independently, set personal goals, and drive self-directed projects.

Bonus Points:

• Experience working in startups as an early or founding engineer
• Experience working with data from analog sensor technologies
• Experience with real-time sensor data processing and filtering
• Familiarity with cloud computing services (e.g., AWS, Azure) for data storage and processing.
• Experience bringing medical devices to market and familiarity with medical device product development standards

Job Details:

• Term:
  January 2025 - April 2025 (with potential for extension).
• Salary:
  $36 per hour
• Hours:
  Part-time or full-time.
• Location:
  In-person at our workspace near Vancouver General Hospital.
