The values associated with modernism include originality, authenticity, the possibility of personal expression, individuality, purity, reduction to essentials, the belief that the fine arts are the highest form of human production, and the belief that art transcends the everyday world. Modernism has also been accused of privileging the production and expression of Western, white, heterosexual males over the production of women, people of color, and homosexuals.
