A number to measure the central tendency (average), shortening from arithmetic mean. By definition, the mean for a sample (usually denoted by X ˉ ) is X ˉ = Sum of all values in the sample Number of values in the sample , and the mean for a population (usually denoted by m ) is m = Sum of all values in the population Number of values in the population .
