This module is divided into three sections:
Part 1: Analysis of the raw materialPart 2: Making biodiesel
Part 3: Biodiesel analysisThis distribution of work allows the users to operate it in three separate laboratory procedures or in a combination of them, according to their current needs or interests. Additionally, the raw material from which biodiesel is produced will be selected.
Part 1: analysis of raw material
In Part 1, students will develop skills required for testing the selected raw material by performing titration analysis, calculations and determining the quality of the raw material for the production of biodiesel. The conclusions obtained from this part will determine the best method to produce biodiesel from the selected raw material.
Part 2: making biodiesel
Once this is performed, during Part 2 the student may prepare biodiesel. This is a very simple chemical reaction. Meanwhile, students must also follow the safety rules related to this process. The MSDS of the chemicals to be used in the process must be discussed as well as making sure safe laboratory practices are used.
Part 3: analysis of the biodiesel
Finally in Part 3, students will develop skills in the analysis of biodiesel and will be able to distinguish between biodiesel and glycerin, the main byproduct of this process.
Abiotic factors are non living components of ecosystem. These include physical and chemical elements like temperature, light, water, soil, air quality and oxygen etc
