Job Summary

The Oncology Pharmacist will manage and operate a comprehensive Oncology Pharmacy service providing scientific knowledge and professional judgment required to improve and promote health through assurance of the safe and efficacious use of chemotherapy drugs for diagnosis and therapy for CAMCHS, Inc.
and Charleston area customers.

Responsibilities
• Provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients to assure safe and effective drug therapy.
Demonstrates independent desicison-making, clinical judgment and in-depth knowledge of oncology and therapeutics.
Develops and mainains a clinical practice, collaborating with medical and nursing personnel in pursuing optimal drug therapy for patients with cancer.
Provides education and medication-related counseling to patients, families and caregivers about the drug therapy provided.
Assists in the optimal selection of pharmacologic agents and design of a regimen to maiximze therapeutic benefit and minimize toxicity.
Recommends, verbally and in writing, adjustments or modifications to the drug regimen according to clinical and toxic endpoints.
Develops and communicates, verbally and in writing, specific pharmacotherapeutic plans for the supportive care of individual patients.
• Maintains a readily retrievable and ongoing record of each patient's chemotherapy regimen,dosages, as well as pertinent clinical and laboratory data.
Provides drug and clinical information to other healthcare professionals in response to specific questions relating to new evolving issures related to the care of patients with cancer.
Participates in quality assurance programs.
Participates in committees, including Oncology Formulary selection.
Assists in avoiding and/or resolving unlabeled uses of high cost chemotherapy and biological therapies.
Provides clinical education and training to pharmacy students, pharmacist practitioners, and residents in the Department of Pharmacy.
Retrieves and evaluates relevant oncology literature.
• Integrates new information with existing information to establish recommendations for clinical use.
Develops/maintains operational protocols and procedures in accordance with regulations and guidelines set by JACHO and CAMC policy.
Responsible for the procurement, receipt, and storage of medications at the David Lee Cancer Center.
Responsible for compounding, dispensing and labeling chemotherapy products for patients receiving treatment at the David Lee Cancer Center.
Maintains departmental, institutional, and licensure-required education.
Documents appropriately.
Demonstrates positive customer service and co-worker relations.
Participates in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages.
Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in:

Education
• Doctorate Degree (Required) Experience:
5-7 Years Oncology

Credentials
• Board Cert Oncology Pharmacist (Required)
• Pharmacist, Licensed (Required)
