Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position working 40 hours/week.

Headquarters:
This position is headquartered at the Risser Justice Center located at 17 West Main Street in Madison.

Position Summary

This position is an advanced-level direct service provision position of statewide scope that serves victims and witnesses of crime who seek assistance specific to their victimization and/or engagement with the criminal justice system. This position provides criminal justice system-based advocacy, mediation, and direct services to crime victims who contact the Department of Justice for assistance and/or intervention for the purpose of enforcing their victims' rights as provided by the Wisconsin Constitution and Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 950. In some cases, investigated and/or prosecuted statewide by the Department of Justice, the position also provides professional victim witness services, as well as consultation to Assistant Attorneys Generals and Division of Criminal Investigations Agents regarding case specific victimization issues. This position serves as a subject-matter expert on the provision, affording, and enforcement of crime victims' statutory and constitutional rights. The position is under the general supervision of the Director of Victim Service Programs.

Salary Information

The Victim Specialist Advanced position is in pay schedule and range 12-64. The starting pay will be between $32. 00 - $33. 33/hour. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Job Details

Funding for this position is currently dependent upon grant funds, which may or may not be renewed or extended. As a permanent employee, the employee in this position will receive all rights and privileges afforded by state law.

This position will be eligible to work remotely, reporting to the headquarters in Madison occasionally, including reporting on multiple consecutive workdays if needed. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement.

Travel Requirements:
Occasional in-state travel will be required. Must be eligible to drive when required for travel.

Qualifications Please address the following in your resume and/or letter of qualifications. Minimally qualified applicants must have education, training and/or experience in the following :

• Working with victims or survivors of crime in a victim advocacy or victim/witness assistance capacity.
• Working with individuals who have experienced trauma related to crime victimization.
• Assisting victims or survivors of crime to navigate the criminal justice process.
• Drafting written communications explaining the criminal justice process; the roles and responsibilities of a prosecutor; what and when constitutional and statutory victims' rights apply; and/or how to exercise victims' rights within the criminal justice process.

• Experience building relationships and formally communicating with criminal justice stakeholders, which may include but is not limited to, district attorneys, law enforcement, judges, victim/witness coordinators, probation/parole agents, clerks of court, and/or elected officials.
• Experience assisting victims of crime to assert their victims' rights within the criminal justice process.
