SUMMARY

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at the Warm Springs Health & Wellness Center plays a crucial role in supporting the healthcare team by providing direct patient care and administrative support. Working under the supervision of licensed medical professionals, the CMA is responsible for performing clinical tasks such as patient intake, recording vital signs, and preparing patients for examinations and procedures. The CMA also assists with diagnostic tests, administers medications, collects specimens for lab analysis, and ensures the cleanliness and safety of the treatment areas. By effectively managing both patient care and administrative responsibilities, the CMA helps enhance the overall patient experience and ensures the efficient operation of the clinic. This position is critical in supporting the health and well-being of the American Indian and Alaska Native community served by the center, contributing to the centers mission of providing high-quality healthcare services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct patient intake procedures, including obtaining medical information, recording vital signs, and evaluating patients before and after treatment.
Assist in patient care by preparing them for diagnostic tests, examinations, and minor surgical procedures.
Administer medications as prescribed, monitor patients for reactions, and provide follow-up care as needed.
Draw blood and collect specimens for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper handling and labeling.
Maintain accurate patient records and ensure proper entry of data into computer systems.
Prepare medical supplies and equipment for use during patient care and procedures.
Ensure cleanliness and safety in treatment areas, maintaining adequate supply levels.
Act as a liaison between patients and primary care providers, facilitating communication and coordination of care.
Provide guidance and support to other medical support staff and participate in training programs.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Proficient in clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with diagnostic tests.
Strong communication skills for interacting with patients and healthcare providers.
Knowledge of infection control practices and safety procedures.
Ability to perform emergency procedures like CPR and manage patient emergencies.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from recognized agencies such as the American Association of Medical Assistants or the National Healthcareer Association.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification renewed every two years.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not typically involve supervisory responsibilities. However, the Certified Medical Assistant will provide technical guidance to other medical support assistants and volunteers. The Certified Medical Assistant participate in training and orientation programs for new staff.

The Certified Medical Assistant works in a clinical setting, requiring direct patient interaction and collaboration with healthcare providers. The role involves exposure to medical conditions and procedures, with a strong emphasis on safety and infection control. Flexibility and teamwork are essential in this dynamic environment.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

?This is an onsite full-time hourly position. Workdays are generally Monday through Friday, 8:
00 a.m. to 5:
00 p.m., excluding federal holidays.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Regular commute to primary work location is not considered travel. Minimal travel expected, primarily within the clinic or for training.

CLEARANCE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must maintain current CMA certification.
Required to complete immunization documentation and comply with HIPAA regulations.
