DOC Deputy Director of Facilites Operations

Overview Duties of the Facilities Division Deputy Director will include assisting the Facilities Division Director with all duties aside from personnel related matters.
These duties will include, but are not limited to, participating in or leading strategic planning, managing budgets, supervising staff, and overseeing security and policy development for correctional facilities.
The role involves collaborating with law enforcement, judicial, and public agencies, coordinating facility maintenance, and ensuring safety and security standards.
Additionally, it includes auditing policies, evaluating facility conditions, managing external service contracts, and acting as the Director's primary designee when necessary.

Environmental Factors Duties are performed in a variety of settings including an office setting, within a correctional facility, in public meetings, etc.
A valid driver's license is necessary for required travel.
Duties may entail significant amounts of evening, weekend, and emergency activity.
The position is required to be on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week, when serving as the designee for the Director and if assigned primary responsibility for oversite of a region or unit, except when on leave.
Substantial exposure to adversary proceedings and court cases may occur.
Although direct contact with inmates is limited, such situations may arise creating a potential for physical assault and injury.
Minimum Qualifications Five (5) or more years of supervisory or managerial experience in the field of human services, including three (3) or more years in either a correctional setting or a role requiring frequent interaction with correctional facility administration and inmates, coordinating with a correctional facility program, or direct casework with correctional inmates.

Preferred Qualifications Associates degree or higher in criminal justice or a related field in human services.
Special Requirements Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, except for those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
