POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The VBBPL Staff "Community Organizer" position will play a crucial role in building the capacity of resident leaders in Vallejo and Solano County, advancing health and racial justice through strategic community organizing. This position requires a passionate individual committed to empowering community members, facilitating training, and fostering collaborative relationships to address historical injustices and improve community health outcomes. In the heart of Vallejo and Solano County, community organizers are at the forefront of building power and advancing health and racial justice. Their journey begins with a commitment to ongoing leadership development, as they engage in activities designed to enhance their organizing skills and strengthen their ability to mobilize residents. Collaborating closely with fellow organizers, they craft and refine strategic plans that align with their collective goals, ensuring that their efforts resonate within the community.

Housed within the Public Health Program, this is a full-time-grant position.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities

By fulfilling these responsibilities, community organizers will play a vital role in building power, advancing health and racial justice, and fostering a more equitable community in Vallejo and Solano County.

Leadership Development and Capacity Building:
Engage in ongoing leadership development activities to enhance community organizing skills and build a strong base of resident leaders in Vallejo; and collaborate with fellow community organizers to create and refine strategic development plans that align with collective goals and outcomes.

Training and Learning:
Attend trainings and educational opportunities to further develop organizing skills and strategies; work closely with leadership development consultants to implement best practices and refine personal leadership approaches.

Understanding Racial Injustice:
Deepen knowledge of the history of racial injustice and its impact on health and life inequities in Vallejo and Solano County; develop a Power Analysis tool to guide community organizing efforts, facilitating a clearer understanding of power dynamics within the community.

Utilize root cause analysis to inform and enhance racial equity practices and frameworks for effective organizing.

Communication and Collaboration:
Maintain ongoing communication with fellow community organizers to share resources, updates, and strategies related to community organizing efforts; foster a supportive network among organizers that encourages collaboration and collective action.

Healing and Trauma Support:

Participate in counseling and healing practices to process individual and community trauma, promoting personal and collective resilience; incorporate abolition somatic programming and cultural first aid techniques to strengthen emotional well-being and enhance leadership capacity within the community.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION(S):
Experience in community organizing, advocacy, or related fields.
Strong understanding of health equity and racial justice issues, particularly in the context of Vallejo and Solano County.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse community members.
Experience in facilitating training and workshops is preferred.
Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development in areas of trauma-informed care and community healing practices.

Work Environment: This position will involve both in-person and remote work, with regular community engagement and collaboration. Flexibility in hours may be required to accommodate community meetings and events

Maximum Salary

USD $75,409.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $60,327.20/Yr.
