Job Duties

Salary Range: Min $100,000 (Negotiable with experience) Licensed Clinical Psychologists will be eligible for additional $10,000 on top of their basic pay.

Who we are:
Western State Hospital (WSH) is the state of art psychiatric hospital operating since 1828 under Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services. WSH is 302-bed Joint Commission accredited facility located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley within 30-minutes of major state universities, is affiliated with the University of Virginia-Department of Psychiatric Medicine and provides a training ground for professionals from other colleges and universities in the fields of nursing, social work, psychology, and recreational/occupational activities therapy.

Western State Hospital is seeking qualified candidates to join the Psychology Department as a unit Clinical Psychologist. The selected candidate will join a large department alongside 19 fellow Clinical Psychologists and approximately 25 paraprofessional staff. This role provides many services to our vulnerable populations, including evaluation of individuals with serious mental disorders, provision of psychological interventions (e.g., group and individual therapy) and forensic evaluations (pretrial and NGRI; forensic evaluation training provided as part of this role), collaboration with other care disciplines within an interdisciplinary treatment team environment, and engagement in various committees (within the hospital, within the broader state system). As a teaching hospital, Clinical Psychologists also have the opportunity to supervise undergraduate and graduate psychology students, as preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
• Ph.D. or Psy.D in Clinical or Counseling Psychology form a program accredited by the American Psychological Association
• License (or license-eligible) to practice clinical psychology in Virginia
• demonstrated experience in applying psychological assessment and intervention methods to individuals with serious mental disorders
• completion (or eligible to complete) the forensic evaluation training program in Virginia
• knowledge of serious mental disorders, psychological assessments, and therapeutic interventions
• ability to assess, formulate, and provide interventions for individuals with serious mental disorders
• ability to conduct individual and group psychotherapy
• ability to administer and interpret common psychological assessment measures
• consultation skills for the assessment, management, and treatment of individuals with serious mental disorders
• interpersonal, oral, and writing skills to communicate effectively with individuals with serious mental disorders, family members, and other individuals of varying backgrounds
• ability to collaborate with other disciplines to provide interdisciplinary care
