Description
Join a team of track laborers with a record of building and repairing railroad tracks for Union Pacific over 150 years! As a Track Laborer - System, you'll perform the maintenance, repairs and installations critical to the tracks that run throughout our railroad network. We are powered by our people, will you join our team?
Accountabilities
* Maintain track beds by cutting vegetation and brush when needed, and sweeping, picking and digging dust or snow from movable track parts
* Understand and follow company and industry safety rules, practices and procedures
* Drive company vehicles as the need arises
* Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively resolve situations that arise
* Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
* Perform other duties as assigned
* Observe the condition of the tracks (including beds and right-of-way) for problems or defects
* Remove and replace rails, rail anchors, spikes, ballast, ties and other parts as needed
* Handle, help unload and move track materials and equipment from rail cars, carts or trucks
* Work with equipment; dig holes and trenches, etc.
Qualifications - Required
* Valid driver's license
* Proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
* Experience reading and understanding instructions (examples may include: operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents)
