Product Engineer

Atlas Roof Shingles & Underlayments is seeking a Product Engineer for the Hampton, GA facility.

Product Engineer Job Duties & Responsibilities (include travel requirements)

• Assist in inspection and testing of all finished products and raw material to ensure they meet Atlas and auditing agency specifications.
• Process Root/Cause analysis to determine/eliminate reasons for complaints.
• Performs calibrations on production and lab equipment.
• Assists with product/process improvement projects by collecting, analyzing, and reporting results.
• Helps maintain current test methods and assists in developing and implementing new test methods as necessary to help prevent complaints.
• Check material for defects and monitor product changes.
• Test facer material to ensure that no defective material reaches foam plants or the consumer.
• Keep reports and records results of all tests performed in PeopleSoft and Access.
• Performs claims analysis to accurately determine the disposition of claims.
• Accompany the QC Manager and/or R&D Director on claims visits as necessary (travel as needed to view jobs to complete work assignments).
• Maintain good working relationship with production supervisors and work with supervisors in solving problems resulting in defective material.
• Performs data entry to accurately maintain a history on the finished product physical properties and raw material performance, which provides traceability and the ability to report results.
• Assists in maintaining the consumer services claims process by reporting findings.
• Lead meetings for reporting on productions and sales on root cause and findings.
• Analyze data to determine conclusions through report writing.
• Develop procedures and programs to prevent/minimize complaints.
• Assist in master data for product development to ensure high quality data input.
• New Product Development (Idea Committee) gatekeeper and data collection during meetings.
• Help to manage programs that are implemented through the idea committee.

Product Engineer Supervisory Responsibility

• Will manage an internal lab tech and possible 3rd party contractors

Product Engineer Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor's degree in science or engineering
• Construction material science is required
• 2 years of experience in roofing manufacturing or paper manufacturing, preferred

Product Engineer Skills & Abilities:

• PC Literate, ability to effectively utilize Excel (spreadsheet), Word, email, Power Point, and MiniTab.
• Ability to learn quickly and retain a large amount of detail regarding customer and products.
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to deal effectively with changes in customer orders, notifying production if already in process.
• Ability to communicate clearly (both orally and written) to personnel from a variety of functional areas.
• Ability to enter, manipulate and retrieve data from the computer.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of personnel.
• Professional presentation to represent Atlas Roofing to customers and the public.
• Fluent in English (Reading, Writing, Speaking).
• Advanced math skills (Able to do statistical analysis).
• Identifies concepts and issues of a problem.
• Applies sound judgment and reason to a solution.
• Provides relevant and timely information in a clear manner.
