Position Purpose

Supports Fort Worth ISD compliance with fire safety codes and regulations concerning fire safety and suppression equipment. Assists in the installation and repair of fire alarm systems, smoke and heat detectors, and magnetic door holders. Inspects, repairs, services, and recharges equipment under direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Conducts regular equipment inspections and services equipment as needed (fire alarm systems, voice evacuation systems, and other life safety devices) to ensure proper operation; tests equipment; performs repairs on equipment, replaces parts, and/or coordinates with maintenance staff to handle as appropriate.
• Performs regular systems inspections to correct deficiencies and trouble indications.
• Reads and interprets construction plans, specifications, and riser diagrams.
• Assists in installation, diagnosis, and repair/replacement of wiring, devices and control panels for fire alarm systems; reads and interprets construction plans, specifications, and riser diagrams; supports the maintenance and repair of smoke and heat detectors, magnetic door holders, and fire alarm system components.
• Maintains accountability and inventory for assigned tools and equipment; maintains records of equipment including location and dates of inspections, condition and type of the equipment during inspections, dates of installation and servicing; maintains and orders supplies for fire safety and suppression equipment.
• Stays current on fire prevention safety standards and codes.
• Supports fire alarm system repairs with other trades and personnel as necessary.
• Handles and disposes of hazardous materials according to established procedures.
• Responds to emergency calls as needed, while under direct supervision, including after-hours and/or weekends.

• Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

• Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

• Tools/Equipment Used: Standard hand and power tools; specialty test equipment; electrical measuring and testing equipment; standard office equipment, including computer, tablet, and peripherals; light truck or van.
• Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
• Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.
• Lifting: Occasional heavy lifting and carrying (less than 50 pounds) on a daily basis.

• Environment: Works outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; may work on rooftops; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; works around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular and prolonged hours; frequent reaching and feeling while in confined spaces and around objects, which reduce or prevent visibility of what is being touched; occasionally works at heights up to 30' above ground; frequent districtwide travel.

• Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
• Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours and/or change in shift schedule with little or no advance notice.

• Education: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required.
• Certification/License: None.
• Experience:
  • 1 year of general trade, maintenance, construction, mechanical, or installation experience;
• Successful completion of an approved Fort Worth ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, including, but not limited to:
