Position Summary:
The Loss Mitigation Senior Underwriter works with the borrowers who are interested in remaining in their homes or liquidating their property. They review all retention and non-retention workout options, including, but not limited to repayment plans, modifications, short sales, and deeds-in-lieu. The Loss Mitigation Senior Underwriter will provide training to new hires, reinforcement training to the team, reviews and responds to department escalations, and completes special projects as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes loans for repayment plans or modification eligibility based upon lender program requirements, investor approval matrix and state and federal programs.
  • Analyzes loans for short sale or deed-in-lieu eligibility based upon lender program requirements, investor approval matrix and state and federal programs.
  • Reviews customer loss mitigation packages and identifies deficiencies in requirements and generates notices to borrowers with items needed to cure deficiencies.
  • Generates customer approval and adverse action notices for modifications, short sale or deed-in-lieu.
  • Coordinates with Selene Mortgage Specialists on items required by lenders or for documentation to complete the modification, short sale, or deed-in-lieu.
  • Stays abreast of industry program requirements, including GSE/Insurer requirements.
  • Maintains all databases, workflows and systems by referring loans for investor approval.
  • Completes modifications including pro forma escrow analysis.
  • Conduct training with newly hired underwriters,
  • Provides reinforcement training and coaching and feedback to the team.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Meets defined monthly productivity and quality assurance goals.

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Associate's degree (A. A. ) from two-year College preferred. Two to four years' related experience and/or training required.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:
Working knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Previous experience with MSP, Black Knight/LPS and Fiserv preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:
SAFE License preferred, DE Underwriter Certification required.
