POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Technical Market Development is primarily responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans to further biofuels adoption, both domestically and globally, in coordination with the Vice President of Market Development and our third-party technical consultant. Additionally, the Director of Technical Market Development supports our operations in working with state weights and measures, interpreting & influencing regulations, assisting in market development by engaging with refineries, terminals, and retailers, and ensuring proper fuel quality and proper handling. The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific background, with a proven ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and drive market initiatives. Internal and external stakeholder management is paramount. This role requires excellent communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Interpret and apply state and federal rules and regulations related to liquid fuel standards. Partner with state weights and measures and create strong working relationships. Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Represent Growth Energy, and collaborate with stakeholders & members, at industry meetings including ASTM, technical committees, environmental compliance committees, and plant and employee safety committees.
Provide technical expertise in fuel quality and handling, including the analysis of fuel properties, contamination issues, hazmat materials, labeling, and industry best practices. Lead research to further develop the biofuel market.
Create and maintain best-in-class guides on ethanol handling, E85, mid-level ethanol blends, quality control, rail transportation, truck transportation, etc.
Address and resolve technical issues related to liquid fuels, including troubleshooting equipment issues, investigating quality concerns, terminal blending & billing practices, and recommending corrective actions.
Offer guidance and training to internal teams and external partners on regulatory compliance, fuel handling procedures, fueling infrastructure, and best practices for maintaining fuel quality.
Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to enhance biofuel market presence, including identifying opportunities for growth, creating new commercial & organizational relationships and strengthening existing relationships, and working with stakeholders to promote product acceptance and new uses. Potential uses include on-road, aviation, marine, etc.
Prepare detailed reports and documentation related to regulatory compliance, analysis, and fuel quality assessments. Create and document best practices and proactively engage state-level stakeholders to create consensus.
Work closely with state agencies, federal agencies, industry groups, and other stakeholders to stay informed about regulatory changes, industry developments, and emerging trends.
Stay up to date with industry trends, ethanol plant operations, technological advances, and best practices in the energy sector.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
Liaise with other associations, both state and federally, to include multiple points of view that lead to a unified approach to market and technical development that aligns with organization's outlook and goals
Gain a comprehensive understanding of business practices to increase ethanol volumes.
Communicate monthly reporting on progress towards reaching annual goals.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
Training/Certifications
Bachelor's degree; Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
Advanced degrees or certifications related to fuel quality or regulatory affairs are a plus.
5 to 10 years of experience in a technical role related to liquid fuels, including experience with state weights and measures regulations and market development.
Operational experience at a liquid fuel production facility is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The fast-paced nature of this position for Growth Energy requires a consistent office presence. Employees are generally expected to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Employees may also need to work varied extended hours as projects demand and during organization events which can include nights and weekends, as business needs dictate.
This individual will work remotely from other employees, so they must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills to stay connected to the organization. The Director of Market Development Operations is expected to travel extensively and regularly report activities and progress to the market development team. Employees are generally expected to maintain regular and consistent working hours. Employees may also need to work varied extended hours as projects demand and during organization events which can include nights and weekends, as business needs dictate.
