Job Summary
This Staff Research Associate II will lead and assist with analytical assay development, assay validation and sample analysis for drugs and biomarkers central to the UCSF Drug Research Unit's research for drug development and pathogenesis of HIV, HIV cure, malaria, pediatrics transplant/oncology, and other disease states.
They will work directly under the direction of the DRU Lab manager, alongside co-Directors, lab staff, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and student interns.
The Drug Research Unit (DRU) is a biomedical research and training program in which faculty, post doctoral fellows, residents, and students carry out drug research, with emphasis on pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD).
It is the home of the research programs of Francesca Aweeka, PharmD (Director Emertia), Liusheng Huang, PhD (Codirector), and Amelia Deitchman, PharmD, PhD (Codirector).
The DRU also serves as a Pharmacology Core for the Center for Aids Research (CFAR).
Our research focuses in clinical-translational pharmacology study design, development of highly sensitive LC-MS/MS assays for quantitation of drugs and biomarkers, statistical and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (drug exposure-response) analyses, disease pathogenesis and biomarker analysis, computational support for statistical analyses, and collaborative project planning and grant writing including assistance with preliminary studies.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for Staff Research Associate 2 is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate).
The budgeted range for this position is $60,301 - $66,545 per year.

Department Description
The Department of Clinical Pharmacy is one of three departments in the School of Pharmacy (SOP) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
Three goals of the School are:
creating a new framework for drug discovery and development, ensuring that more patients get the best results from their drugs, and shaping the future of pharmacy science, policy, education, and patient care by working in fresh and collaborative ways.
Given the Schools Strategic planning, the Department has also met and adopted a mission and vision statement, under which it operates.
The mission statement "To advance the precise, safe, and effective use of medications to improve health through excellence and innovation in pharmacy education, in patient care, education, research, and public service," the vision statement "To change the face of pharmacy through innovations that improve health," and the core values statement, "Caring, integrity, diversity, collaboration, and excellence."
The Department of Clinical Pharmacy is a multi-faceted department with centers, laboratories, and educational programs with many locations at UCSF (Parnassus, Mission Bay, and ZSFG) and throughout the state.
It is home to a number of functional units:
California Poison Control System (CPCS), Drug Research Unit (DRU), Medication Outcomes Center (MOC), Program for Outcomes, Pharmaceutical Economics, and Policy Studies (PrOPEPS), and Translational and Policy Research on Precision Medicine (TRANSPERS).
The department also delivers a substantial portion of the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum at UCSF with preceptors and faculty appointments without salary (WOS).
The department sponsors a large contingent of WOS faculty for qualified preceptors and educators who support our teaching programs at various sites in California.
Required Qualifications
BA/BS in chemistry or a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or equivalent experience/training.
Experience/training utilizing the HPLC, LC-MS, and/or LC-MS/MS for assay development, and sample analysis.
Ability to communicate and work with diverse, cross disciplinary teams to execute tasks efficiently and professionally, including within the lab (with trainees, students, staff scientists and co-Directors) as well as internal and external collaborators.
A passion for research, learning, and personal and professional growth
Preferred Qualifications
Experience validating assays per FDA bioanalytical guidance
Experience with analytical instrument maintenance and trouble-shooting.
Professional communication and/or diversity training
Experience working in cross disciplinary teams
