Summary/Objective

KMS Solutions is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team of engineers and technicians providing engineering and technical support to the Ranges, Engineering, and Analysis Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. This multi-disciplinary team is responsible for providing systems safety, environmental qualification testing, and range sustainment in support of undersea warfare systems, including unmanned and autonomous systems. Candidates with education and experience in computer engineering or software development fields are highly desired.

Essential Functions
Research and analyze sonar signal processing and underwater acoustics including detection techniques and (tracking) localization algorithms.
Program and develop undersea warfare (USW) systems and elements to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
Work with sensor data from acoustic, sonar, and other undersea tracking devices to build integrated systems.
Design and optimize algorithms for real-time data processing, tracking, and predictive modeling.
Required Education and Experience (for Entry level positions):

Ability to obtain a Secret DoD clearance
Bachelor's Degree in a computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
Three (3) years of software development experience
Strong working knowledge of Java programming and knowledgeable of C programming
Working knowledge of probability and statistics, linear algebra, and multivariate calculus
Preferred Knowledge and Experience (for Journeyman positions):

Secret DoD clearance
Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
Eight (8) years of software engineering experience
Engineering experience specifically with undersea warfare systems and/or Navy training range systems
NUWC Division Newport specific experience
Required Competencies:

Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate both orally and in writing to all levels of customer and company leadership
Capable of effectively working and problem solving in both independent and team environments
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
Strong understanding of the fundamentals of data structures and algorithms as they apply to code development
Thoroughness and attention to detail
Preferred Competencies:

Experience communicating and interacting with all levels of customer and company leadership.
Ability to work independently
Strong record of delivering quality software products

Work Environment:

This job operates primarily in a professional office environment in person on a hybrid basis, with up to 16 hours of telework allowed weekly. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The typical workday is eight hours in length. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with concurrence from the supervisor. The employee must be available during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and must account for the hours in a pay period to maintain full-time status.

Telework:

This is a hybrid position. Telework Allowed up to 40% after the first six months.

Travel:

Up to 10% travel may be required.
