POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES The Senior Structural Engineer plays a key role in the successful execution of projects.
Reporting to the Structural Engineering Manager, this individual will provide technical and engineering excellence, as well as successful delivery of work to our customers.
The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and managed - both externally and internally.
The successful candidate will also contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, communicating clearly to all stakeholders, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment.
This person will also actively support the business development process, through the writing of proposals and meeting with prospective and current customers.
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Serve as project manager or discipline lead for complete projects; manage large multi-discipline projects from start to finish.
Participate in all aspects of business development - proposals, meetings with clients, interviews.
Effectively execute projects.
Develop estimates for assigned scope of work, and ensure we stay within scope and adhere to the overall project budget (KFI labor, expenses, and subs).
Also create project plans and schedule for execution of work.
Coordinate work with both internal and external stakeholders, providing technical support and work direction as needed.
Oversee the production of construction documents including drawings and specifications, ensuring the application of sound structural engineering principles.
Provides work direction to other team members (including subcontractors), and technical and engineering support to other departments/disciplines.
Be a mentor to younger, less experienced team members providing guidance and teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS Required Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Design.
10+ years' experience.
Strong structural design experience across a variety of industries and materials.
Experience using structural analysis software (RISA or similar).
Demonstrated consistency in successful combination of design and/or project management.
Possess an understanding of Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering construction practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication, and meeting management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application, including MS Office.
Represent the company in a professional matter.
Preferred Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification in Minnesota highly preferred.
P.E.
registration in other states is desirable.
Experience working with industrial, agribusiness or processing building designs.
Working Conditions Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites Travel:
May include some domestic travel 1 to 2 days in duration.
