Overview:
Manages and participates in preparing a limited number of complex Fiduciary and other income tax returns, where the Bank or one of the legal entities is trustee.
Primary Responsibilities:
Maintain a thorough understanding of the systems and procedures of the Fiduciary Tax area and participate in training within and outside the department to expand job-related knowledge.
Responsible for a small assigned book of accounts and timely and accurate preparation of complex tax returns, including Private Foundations, Public Charities and Estates.
Manage assigned staff in the completion of timely and accurate tax returns for wealth clients.
Provide guidance and training to less experienced personnel.
Participate in client meetings and sales pitches.
Contribute to the overall management of the department.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 7 years' experience preparing income tax returns, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 11 years' higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 7 years' experience preparing income tax returns
Minimum of 2 years' managerial and/or work leadership experience
Good understanding of pertinent word processing and spreadsheet software
Good communication skills
Experience dealing with clients and advisors
Education and Experience Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Minimum of 10 years' experience preparing trust income tax returns
CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
Experience with pertinent tax-related systems and software
Experience preparing complex returns
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $127,274.43 - $223,693.40 (USD). The successful candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
