Registered Nurse - Psych Job Specialty:
Behavioral Health - Inpatient Job Duration:
13 weeks Shift:
12-Hour Nights Guaranteed Hours:
36 per week Experience:
Minimum of 1 year; candidates with less than 1.5 years require manager approval.
First-time travelers accepted with over 2 years of experience.
License:
Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing Certifications:
BLS required.
CPI is preferred but can be obtained during the assignment.
Must-Have:
- Completion of a board-approved nursing education program - Ability to perform patient takedowns and physical restraints - Experience with EPIC documentation
- Work with psychiatric patients, including children/adolescents (ages 5-17) and adults - Diagnoses include, but are not limited to:
Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Psychosis, Adjustment Disorder - Occasionally manage violent/aggressive patients - Collaborate with a team nursing approach - Administer medications (injectable and PO), evaluate care plans, and maintain documentation - Conduct admission screenings, assessments, and discharge planning - Perform minor wound care and EKGs (training provided) - Manage glucometer readings and vital signs - Conduct suicide risk assessments using the Columbia scale - Lead patient group discussions and activities - Ensure safety through Q15 minute rounds, patient monitoring, and contraband checks - Restock supplies and assist with patient ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) - Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques and restraint measures if needed - Participate in weekend rotation and holiday scheduling as required - Work collaboratively with 24/7 available security, panic alarms, and the Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) - Utilize Omnicell for medical dispensing - Potentially float between three floors of the behavioral health facility.
