The Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains (BGCNP) is a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth across South Dakota.
With locations in Brookings, Elkton, Moody County, Yankton, and Vermillion, BGCNP serves as a vital resource for children and teens, providing a safe and inclusive environment to foster growth, learning, and leadership.

The Club focuses on three core areas:
Academic Success, Good Character & Leadership, and Healthy Lifestyles.
Through programs such as after-school tutoring, leadership development initiatives like Keystone and Torch Clubs, and activities promoting physical and emotional well-being, BGCNP equips young people with the tools they need to thrive.

Position Summary

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will play a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission by leading all aspects of resource development.
This position is responsible for planning and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure significant private revenue from individuals, corporations, and foundations as well as managing a grants program.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CDO will work closely with the CEO, board members, and other stakeholders to foster a culture of philanthropy, ensuring the sustainability and growth of BGCNP's programs and services across the market area.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan aligned with BGCNP's mission and vision.
Cultivate relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate partners to secure significant gifts and grants.
Oversee donor stewardship programs, ensuring meaningful engagement and recognition of contributors.
Identify and pursue new funding opportunities, including untapped corporate and private sources.
Coordinate market area wide fundraising efforts, leverage partnerships with local Clubs and community leaders.
Lead the planning and execution of fundraising events, including donor outreach, event logistics, and post-event follow-up.
Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to create compelling campaigns and materials that highlight the impact of donor support.
Provide leadership and mentorship to the development team, fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment.
Maintain comprehensive tracking of fundraising activities, preparing detailed progress reports for the CEO and Board of Directors.
Ensure adherence to ethical fundraising practices and compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

Candidate Qualifications

A bachelor's degree is required, with a Master's degree preferred.
Proven success in fundraising, donor relations, and business development, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding financial targets.
Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, writing grants, and leading capital or major gift campaigns.
Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage donors and inspire support.
Strong strategic planning and budget management expertise, with the ability to align financial goals with organizational priorities.
Proficiency in donor database systems and fundraising software.
Public relations and marketing experience, including the development of promotional materials and campaign strategies.
Excellent leadership and supervisory skills, fostering collaboration and accountability within a team.
Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising trends and best practices.
A passion for the organization's mission and a commitment to driving positive change.
