Job Purpose:

The South Carolina Department of Education is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Executive Assistant to provide critical support to the Superintendent of Education and the executive leadership team. This role will oversee essential administrative functions, manage complex scheduling and correspondence, and coordinate key operational tasks such as logistics, correspondence assignment, purchasing, and reporting. The ideal candidate will work to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of our policy-driven office environment to support critical initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Manage and oversee complex office operations, including executive schedules, logistics, and purchasing, ensuring compliance with policies and maintaining accurate records that directly support executive leadership.
Prepare, proofread, and edit professional correspondence, reports, policy summaries, briefing materials, and presentations on behalf of the Superintendent of Education and executive staff.
Oversee the assignment and tracking of incoming correspondence to the Superintendent of Education, ensuring timely responses and follow-up. Maintain clear communication channels with internal teams and external partners while safeguarding confidentiality.
Coordinate goodwill efforts and recognition initiatives for staff and external partners.
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with executive staff, department personnel, and external partners.
Assist in tracking key strategic policy initiatives, monitoring project deadlines, tracking task progress, and ensuring timely completion of action items among members of the executive leadership team.

This position is located in the Office of Superintendent.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in business, communications, public relations, or related field or commensurate experience in executive planning and administration fields.
Preferred QualificationsQualifications:

Possession of strong communication and writing skills for drafting and editing correspondence, reports, and other materials in support of delivering on Agency strategic goals.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, correspondence tracking systems, and other digital project management tools.
Ability to address complex administrative issues and implement solutions, managing multiple priorities and tracking detailed information accurately.
Commitment to continually building on existing knowledge and skills, including gaining exposure to state-level policy-making and strategic initiatives as well as innovations to improve internal processes in support of the Agency's mission.
Desire to innovate and create cutting edge solutions which make a significant impact in an empowering work environment.
Willingness to work well with people to convey knowledge and build positive working relationships, including team members, executives, and partners.
