Seeking a Principal Engineer - Senior Engineer Fire Protectionto support our federal government client in Aiken, SC.Requirements:

The Contractor will perform the following duties:

Define scope of technical programs and develop effective and efficient solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems.
Routinely use systems and meet all requirements with little supervisory guidance. Assist in teaching newer professionals and guiding their efforts.
Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning where only general objectives are stated.
Coordinate various phases of the activity and perform development work in assigned field.
Define specific problems based on general problem information from management and customers.
Plan technical effort and coordinate activities with those of other divisions, departments and sections in focuses areas to solve problems.
Ensure compliance with technical requirements of assigned work, proper utilization and training of personnel operating under one's technical guidance, and compliance with approved schedules and staffing estimates.
Ensures appropriate technical performance of the end product developed and designed to resolve the original problem.
Determine scheduling and staffing requirements for assigned tasks, in collaboration with management.
Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues and management.
Enhance expertise in field through participation in local technical societies.
Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.

Travel: This position is 70% onsite and 30% remote. Work Hours: Up to a 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10's (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80's (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager. The anticipated work schedule is 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments.

QualificationsRequired

Has mastered technical field, is recognized as internal expert, has depth of knowledge to tackle any problem in field
Has a minimum of 10 years' experience applying and interpreting NFPA and IBC codes
Has a minimum of 10 years' experience in Fire Protection Positions at government and nuclear facilities
Strong written communication skills are required. Job experience writing code position papers, equivalencies or exemptions is required.
Must be able to provide Professional References
Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a DOE "Q" security clearance

Education:

A Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 2 years' experience OR a MS with 5 years' experience OR a BS with 7 years' experience.

Preferred

Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years
