Job Title: Registered Nurse

Job Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)

Job Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, Day/Night Rotation with every other weekend and rotating holidays

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of critical care/ICU experience, with at least 2 years in CVICU. Experience with recovering patients immediately post-op from open heart surgery up to the first 24 hours after surgery. Experience must be recent, within the last 12 months.

License: North Dakota or Compact State RN License

Certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Must-Have: EPIC experience, experience working in a larger hospital with a minimum of 300 beds, level 2 or higher trauma center experience


• Responsible for recovering immediate post-op heart patients and caring for other cardiac patient populations such as Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) and Impella.
• Perform cardiac monitoring, manage ventilators (Vents), central lines, arterial lines (Art Lines), and titrate drips.
• Provide tracheostomy care, manage tube feedings, and conduct emergent reopening of sternotomy at the bedside.
• Utilize equipment in the unit including IABP, Impella, Swan-Ganz catheters, Hamilton Ventilators, Alaris pumps, and External Ventricular Drains (EVDs).
• Willingness to float to other critical care units as needed, including Intermediate Care (IMC) with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio in primary unit is primarily 2:1, occasionally 1:1 or 3:1 based on patient complexity and acuity. When floating to IMC, the ratio is 4:1.
• Participate in training and orientation specific to the department to ensure proficiency in all necessary procedures and unit protocols.
