We are hiring for a 1.0, 10-hour RN Circulating Nurse in Surgery at Gillette Children's St. Paul campus. Position will work 4-10 hour shifts a week, primarily M-F, with on call requirements of after hours, one holiday per year of call, and every 4th-6th weekend call. *Preferred: 1 year minimum of RN experience with 1 year of OR experience. Will consider new OR nurses with completion of Periop 101 course through Anoka Technical College preferred prior to starting. *
This position exists to administer family-centered nursing care to patients, advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention, and/or provide skilled assistance in navigation of the health care system as appropriate to the developmental, cultural, emotional, and medical, surgical, or rehabilitative needs of the patient and their families.
Specific duties are determined by the work setting or patient population served; however, in all positions, serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams. We organize care around each patient's condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning integrated teams.
An RN position in the Orthopedic/Surgical Unit at Gillette Children's involves providing specialized care to pediatric patients under 18 who are recovering from surgery and require an inpatient stay of one or more nights. In addition to post-surgical care, nurses in this unit also care for non-surgical patients needing medical treatment that requires a short hospital stay. RNs in this role collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to manage pain, wound care, and recovery, while also educating families about the treatment process. This position requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate, family-centered approach to care.
Compensation & Benefits Information
The hourly wage for this opportunity is $36.13-61.70. Pay is dependent on several factors including number of hours worked within the field, education, and certification/licensure: $1.75 weekend/ $2.75 evening/ $4.00 night differential is available for this position. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Demonstrates knowledge about the psychologic, sociologic, and spiritual responses of patients and their families to the operative or other invasive procedure
Applies principles of aseptic technique while establishing and maintaining sterile fields
Performs skin preparations, monitors for wound contamination, and classifies the surgical wound
Ensures perioperative environmental sanitation
Family centered care - Provides nursing care and health education reflecting specific patient, family, cultural and community needs.
Identifies the learning needs of the population served.
Implements an effective teaching plan.
Employs strategies to promote health in a safe environment.

Qualifications
Required
Documentation of completion of professional nursing program (RN program)
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license through the MN Board of Nursing
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. If candidate holds valid CPR for through another acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette), candidate may be able to begin employment but must complete Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association within one month of employment.
Must be interested in working with people with short term or long-term disabilities that begin in childhood
Physically able to work hours required and meet physical demands of the position. In certain departments, this will include being part of the off-premise call schedule.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in nursing or other healthcare related field
Prior nursing experience in a health-related setting
Nursing Specialty Certification relevant to the position (ex. CNOR)
