Position Description:Job Title: Veterinary Technician

Department/Location: Spay & Neuter Clinic, Warwick, RI

Classification: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt

Reports To: Clinic Manager

Job Purpose

Responsible for the daily care of all surgical patients, assisting doctors and other veterinary technicians with pre-, peri- and post-operative care of patients, general cleaning, and training new technicians to utilize the clinic's patient care protocols. The veterinary technician also facilitates the relaying of any animal health issues or concerns between the customer and veterinarian.

Accountabilities

Admits surgical patients as they are checked in. Report any health concerns to veterinarians.
Efficiently pre-medicate, induce, and intubate any and all patients as necessary.
Monitor anesthesia with a clear idea of abnormal conditions
Handle and track controlled substances for large volumes of surgical patients
Administer vaccinations, tests, medications, and treatments at the direction of veterinarians
Ensure prompt and accurate data recording procedures are followed each day
Knowledge and ability to intake and release patients, including developing post-operative instructions in a competent and friendly manner
Take directions from veterinarians
Able to respond appropriately during an emergency, follow veterinarian instructions and maintain the competency of CPR procedures
Able to assist doctors with surgery when appropriate
Maintain an appropriate level of inventory of medical/surgical supplies
Walking/feeding patients as necessary
Train new veterinary technicians to utilize our patient care protocols
Communicate in an effective and professional manner with the public and coworkers
Handle medical phone calls
Assists in maintaining healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant, and clean facilities
Be a "team leader" by displaying a positive attitude and acting as a motivating force for all staff members
Follows all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA regulations
Demonstrates initiative and a flexible work schedule while working enthusiastically and cooperatively with all clinic and shelter staff
Adheres to all Code of Conduct standards
Other duties as requested

Job Type: Full-time, Mon-Fri, daytime hours with flexibility to work outside regular hours as deemed necessary.

Pay:$18.00 per hour with consideration given to skills, abilities, and current salary/tenure with the PLFA
