About the Organization Horstman is an established participant on major defense programs, both domestically and internationally, and is recognized for competitive, best-value program delivery, design engineering, subcontract management, and risk management on urgent and complex programs. The origins of Horstman have a long legacy of engineering and manufacturing. Horstman is a 100+ year-old company with the distinction of pioneering work in the automotive industry in the 1920's and 30's, designing and manufacturing a number of innovative engineering solutions. Horstman is most known for the development of alternative suspension systems, which today is the largest part of Horstman business. The name "Horstman suspension" also refers to suspensions built by the Horstman company (now Horstman Defence Systems Ltd or its subsidiaries), whether of the bogie type, torsion beam design, hydrogas, hydropneumatic or other.

Horstman seeks the best candidates to ensure the success of its goals and objectives. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Quality Manager to lead our quality department and ensure the highest standards of quality for our products. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing quality processes in a small manufacturing environment, with specific experience in the defense industry being highly desirable. As the Quality Manager, you will oversee a team of four quality professionals, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with AS9100 standards and defense product specifications. Hands-on experience with quality tools and direct involvement in inspection and problem-solving activities are essential. Additionally, the role requires the integration of quality practices and data into a data management system to enhance decision-making and reporting.
PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Management:
Lead and mentor a small quality department consisting of four team members.
Develop and implement quality processes and practices that enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
Foster a culture of quality awareness and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Quality System Oversight:
Ensure compliance with AS9100 quality management systems and other relevant industry standards.
Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality documentation and procedures.
Product Quality Assurance:
Monitor and evaluate the quality of manufactured products, including metal machining components, hydraulic and hydropneumatic assemblies, and painted components.
Ensure that products meet defense-specific requirements such as MIL-SPEC (Military Specifications), environmental testing standards, and other customer-specific performance and reliability criteria.
Conduct hands-on inspections and audits to ensure products meet defense customer specifications and quality requirements.
Process Improvement:
Identify and address quality issues using root cause analysis, corrective action methods, and problem-solving techniques.
Implement process improvements to enhance product quality and reduce defects.
Utilize quality tools and methodologies such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and 8D Problem Solving to drive quality improvements.
Engage in hands-on problem-solving and use of quality tools for real-time issue resolution.
Data Management and Integration:
Integrate quality practices and data into a data management system to improve quality tracking, reporting, and decision-making.
Analyze quality data to identify trends, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and provide actionable insights to senior management.
Ensure data accuracy and maintain comprehensive records of quality performance metrics and improvement activities.
Customer Interaction:
Serve as the primary point of contact for quality-related issues with defense customers.
Address and resolve customer complaints and quality concerns in a timely and effective manner.
Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure all quality processes comply with regulatory and customer requirements, including clean room standards for specific assemblies.
Prepare and present quality reports and metrics to senior management.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
The Quality Manager reports to the Operation Manager
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field is required. Relevant certifications (e. g. , ASQ Certified Quality Manager) are a plus.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience:
In-depth knowledge of AS9100 quality management systems and standards.
Strong understanding of metal machining processes, hydraulic and hydropneumatic assembly, and painting requirements.
Proficiency with quality tools and methodologies for inspection and problem-solving, including Statistical Proces.
