Staff Accountant

Opportunity Summary:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for all day-to-day accounting activities as well as managing and analyzing financial data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of The Contingent's financial records. This position must possess strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail and excellent communication abilities coupled with a solid understanding of accounting principles, proficiency with accounting software, stellar excel skills, and the ability to critically evaluate financial data to ensure accuracy in reporting while taking initiative to improve operational processes.

The Staff Accountant serves as the finance team's stability, ensuring proper documentation and organization of key financial data and serves as the organization's primary resource for accounting guidelines and support. This position will work closely with the Director of Finance and the Grant & Revenue accountant to ensure compliance and proper accounting.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities include recording all cash transactions, reconciling accounts (including bank accounts, accounts payable and accounts receivable) and ensuring that all general ledger entries are accurate and up to date. This position requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to take initiative in improving operational processes.

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE:

• Prepares A/P aging and process payments weekly.

• Manages invoices, expense reports, credit card reconciliations, check requests, and independent contractors.

• Maintain check log with fundraising and distribute cash receipts report out to key stakeholders.

• Owns A/R and works closely with the Grant & Revenue Accountant to ensure accuracy.

• Manages all invoicing and grant billings.

• Prepares daily/weekly bank deposits.

• Vendor maintenance, including W9s and 1099s.

• Records and analyzes daily cash transactions for accuracy.

• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, through an accounting lens.

• Complete monthly close tasks, including assigned journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.

• Assist with annual audit, including responses to auditors' requests.

• Assist with budgeting.

• Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.

• Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills.

• Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field.

• Or 2 -3 years related experience and or training in non-profit or governmental accounting.

• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Ability to collaborate and work effectively with other team members within the finance department and across different departments to achieve shared goals.

• Excellent external and internal written and verbal communication skills.

• Able to identify discrepancies in financial data, analyze the root cause, and find practical solutions to resolve issues.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Demonstrated competency in basic math, mathematical reasoning, deductive reasoning, numeracy, and survey skills.

• Experience in successfully working with a diverse group of constituents utilizing multi-cultural intelligence, intentional listening, appreciation, and respect.

• Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.

• Exhibits the capacity to evaluate information from different perspectives, identify potential issues, and propose solutions.

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Dynamics 365, Teams, Asana etc.

• Ability as a problem solver and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

• Full Time (40hrs) exempt annual salary offered at a range of $58,000 - $62,000 (estimated total compensation $68,000 - $72,000) doe

• • Starting placement will not exceed this starting salary range and is based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

• This a hybrid position in Portland, Oregon.

• The Contingent has a flexible work model that supports a blend of in-office, remote, virtual and on the go workers.

• This position will be expected to work within The Contingent's hybrid work policy (2-3 days in the office, 2-3 days from home). Daily schedule and in office days will result from collaboration between the employee and their supervisor.

• We have team members located in multiple time zones. To facilitate collaboration across teams, core hours for this position are 9-2 pm PST (11-4pm CST, 12-5pm EST).
