The Role:

Promotes and maintains health by providing physical therapy and rehabilitation services under the supervision of a physical therapist. Contributes to a physical therapist's effectiveness by interviewing patients, performing physical examinations, assessing patient health, identifying patient care issues, and administering appropriate treatment programs. Value-based care model typically seeing approximately 8-10 patients a day. Well-supported position, partnering with the Physical Therapist, Primary Care physicians and other clinical staff in a collaborative care model.

Immediate full-time opportunity - Will provide care to retired San Antonio Fire, Police, and other First Responders in our beautiful state-of-the-art health and wellness centers. Monday - Friday, must be available to work 7:00am-4:00pm AND 8:00am - 5:00pm. Currently this clinic is only open Monday - Friday, however we may expand services to include rotating Saturdays.

What You'll Do:
The Physical Therapist Assistant will primarily be responsible for direct patient care for patients referred to physical therapy.
Evaluates abnormal conditions by reviewing physical therapist's interpretations of patient evaluations and test results.
Documents patient care services by charting patients and records.
Performs therapeutic procedures by administering exercises and instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities.
Helps patients in using supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens and promoting wellness and health maintenance.
Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, regulations, and adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
Maintains production objectives by noting current treatment trends and monitoring actual physical therapy services rendered to production objectives.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading periodicals, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
Assists with review of referrals and scheduling of patients.

Requirements

A strong sense of empathy and compassionate outlook on physical therapy and the ability to motivate patients to complete their exercises
Detail Oriented; pays close attention to detail to assess each patient's needs and progression, and to document treatment sessions
Physical stamina; physically strong and have the stamina to lift patients and help them move. Able to spend most of their day on their feet.
Effective communication skills; able to listen carefully to physical therapist's instructions and relay them to patients. Able to effectively explain treatment plans to patients.
Able to build rapport with patients, and/or families
Patience and a positive attitude; able to be patient as each patient has different strength levels and may have to overcome mental barriers. A positive attitude can help patients work harder and believe they can get better.
Education and Experience:

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree for Physical Therapy Assistant from an accredited school.
Pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy
Minimum 2 years recent experience
Physical Requirements:

The team member is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
The team member may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
