Staff Inova Fairfax Medical Center is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Lactation Consultant to join the team.
This role will be full-day/evening shift 36 hours/week Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible.

Inpatient Lactation Consultant Job Responsibilities:
Coordinates and manages care for patients, including those with complex needs.
Provides lactation assessment, management, education and instruction.
Evaluates patient's response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate.
Performs consultations, rental or sale of lactation equipment and supplies, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate.
Offers post-delivery consultative care to patients:
breastfeeding/chestfeeding, family bonding and planning, etc.
Provides lactation support to all patients in sometimes very challenging clinical and psychosocial circumstances, which may include bereavement of baby or post trauma recovery.
Serves as an advocate for the patient at all times, communicating effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
- Work schedule:
Day/evening shifts, 36 hours/week.
Evenings shifts are typically 11am-11pm.
Staff will be expected to work weekend requirement and holiday retirement as set by unit.
• Required Education:
BSN from an accredited school of nursing.
If RN has an Associate's Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
• Experience:
Required:
A minimum of two years of Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting.
• Required Certification:
Certification as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or achieved IBCLC within 1 year of hire | Current VA nursing licensure or eligible for VA nursing licensure | Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start - Preferred Experience:
Two years as a Registered Nurse on a postpartum unit, who currently holds an IBCLC.
